Review Policy

All information on this page is current as of June 2013

ATTENTION — authors/publicists/review request makers:
As of January 2013, I am CLOSED to ALL REVIEW/INTERVIEW SOLICITATIONS until further notice. Please note that this review policy applies to Darkeva’s Dark Delights. Please do not query me about doing reviews on any of the other websites I review for, which are assigned on a different basis. Please read through the text below before contacting me. Any correspondence that doesn’t take my preferences into account will automatically be deleted.

I am open to solicitations for books in the following genres only:

  • Dark fantasy
  • Urban fantasy
  • Graphic Novels
  • Horror
  • No zombie fiction, military horror, erotic horror, slasher novels, Bizarro, serial killer horror, Weird Fiction, derivations of H.P. Lovecraft, or post-apocalyptic/dystopian material, please.

What I DON’T review:

  • Children’s and YA
  • Literary fiction
  • Christian or inspirational fiction
  • Science fiction (hard/light, YA, SFR)
  • Erotica
  • Mystery
  • Straight Westerns
  • Romance
  • Non-fiction
  • Please note: I make my own picks in crime, paranormal romance, and historical fiction, so please don’t pitch those to me.

Format: I accept both electronic and physical review copies, but physical review copies need to be shipped to Canada. I also accept advance reader copies, and am a member of Netgalley.

I am open to guest blogs from authors, and if you would like to include a giveaway as part of your post or interview, I am only accepting this if your giveaway copy is digital, or if you or your publisher will pay for shipping to the winner within USA and Canada.

Self-published authors: If you are a self-published or indie author, please mention that in your correspondence as I am considering these books on a case-by-case basis and give priority to books from traditional publishers.

Please note: I do not guarantee a review of your book, and am agreeing to consider it for review. At this point, due to the volume of requests I receive each week, I will only review books that I thought favourably of. I try to respond to all correspondence, but if you don’t hear back in 3 to 5 days, assume I’m not interested. As well, please don’t attach your book to your initial email if we don’t have previous correspondence. I receive many books and have a limited schedule, and prefer to devote my time not on books that I didn’t like, but rather on those that I did. As well, please refrain from emailing me to see if I’ve read your book yet. However, if you want to verify that I received the book, that is acceptable.

Timing: Each book I receive is added to a reading queue and I am to have reviews ready within six to eight weeks upon receipt of the book, but this varies depending on my schedule.

Cross-posting Policy: Unless you ask me to cross-post, I don’t automatically do this for every book review (i.e. post a review on Amazon, Goodreads, Shelfari, LibraryThing, or other social cataloging websites).

Please use the contact page for all solicitations, or send me an email here.

Film Reviews:
I review based on my own choices and prefer not to be asked to review films as I don’t accept solicitations on what to feature. If this changes, I will make an announcement on this page.

FTC Disclaimer: unless otherwise noted, all books reviewed here or linked to other pages where I do reviews have been provided by the publisher, publicist, or author for the purpose of review. I receive no payment for reviews.
